My daughter’s favorite food in the world is tacos – but we’ve struggled to find a prepackaged taco seasoning that’s also gluten and dairy free. Many of the gluten-free seasonings, like this one are not dairy free. Furthermore, some contain additives like MSG that we try to avoid.
Because of this, we now make our own. Of all the spice mixtures I use regularly, none of them get as much use as my homemade gluten and dairy free taco seasoning. It’s great to season ground beef, chicken or turkey. Or throw a few tablespoons into a pot of refried beans (and eat with some tortilla chips – YUM!). Toss garbanzo beans in some of this taco seasoning before oven roasting, or add it to some chili. The possibilities really are endless!
This DIY Taco Seasoning is not only gluten, dairy-free and delicious but it’s super easy to make with spices you likely have in your pantry right this very minute! Additionally, it lasts a long time and can be stored easily in any air-tight container with a lid. Moreover, we know what’s in it, and that it’s MSG-free. Add crushed red pepper flakes to taste, or omit completely depending on preference.
It will take about 5 minutes to toss these ingredients together and voila! Homemade, delicious, gluten, dairy AND additive free taco seasoning.
Taco Seasoning, Gluten free
- 1 Tbsp chili powder
- ½ tsp Salt
- ½ tsp Pepper
- ½ tsp Paprika
- ¼ tsp Garlic powder
- ¼ tsp Dried Oregano
- ¼ tsp Onion powder
- ¼ tsp Crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients and mix completely. Store in an air tight container.
- Once made, add ¼ cup of seasoning to 1 lb of cooked meat (ground beef, chicken, etc.) and ⅔ cup of water. Simmer to desired consistency.
